Welcome to the Trevorton, PA Sesquicentennial celebration. Trvorton is celebrating its 150th annivarsery in the year 2000. REMEMBERING THE PAST, CHERISHING THE PRESENT, AND ENRICHING THE FUTURE. The purpose of the celebration in to emphasize those events that have enriched the fabric of life in Trevorton in the past, those which are part of the life of the community at the present time and insure their inclusion in the years to come. The goal of the celebration is to include all orginizations of the community stressing their roles in the past and in the present. The year 2000 is the 150th birthday of the founding of Trevorton, the Trevorton Post Office and the Saint Patrick Parish. The year 2000 is also the 100th birthday of the Trevorton Fire Company. A series of events are being planned beginning with the Week of Unity in January and ending with a Community Christmas Carol Sing in December. The major concentration of events will take place during the week of July 9- July 16, 2000, which include a parade, block party, childrens' events and a whole host of other events for the community to enjoy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
COMMEMORATIVE CALANDAR The committee will prepare a calandar for the year 2000. This will feature scenes of Trevorton in the past, a calandar of events for the year and significant events of the past 150 years. This will make a neat stocking stuffer for Christmas and will be available about October 1, 1999. Reserved copies of the calandar are available to all who make a donation of $7.00, including shipping and handling to: 150th Committee, in care of Union Bank and Trust Company, Trevorton, PA 17881. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The committee is preparing a historical book. A partial list of topics includes: | Businesses, professionals, clubs, churches in Trevorton, 1850-2000; Veterans from the Civil War until Year 2000; Graduates of Trevorton High School, 1892-1966; Updated histories of Trevorton, Nickname List, history of the Trevorton Schools; The 1918 Flu Epidemic; The history of the coal industry in Trevorton; Nostalgia "trips" to the "Foundry", "Ashes", "Oakie", "Rezzy", "New Dam", "Trolley Path", "Mount Poco", "Sandy Beach", "Rock Slope", and "Colliery" Paths; The origin of the Red Devils; An account of Doodle Bug Park, The Rod and Gun Club, and the Recreation Area; Citizens of note; A total of 100 pages, or more, including numerous photos. Reserved copies of the book are available to all who make a donation of $12.00 (3.00 additional to cover shipping and handling) to: 150th Committee in care of: Union Bank and Trust Company, Trevorton, PA 17881 Reservations are requested. The number printed will be based on the number of reserver copies. A limited number may be available to those not reserving on a first-come-first-serve basis.
